Position Overview
The Lighting Designer transforms the creative brief, room conditions, stage layout, camera needs, and production schedule into a cohesive lighting design. This role prepares plots and paperwork, selects fixtures and control methods, collaborates with production leaders and clients, directs focus, and guides programming so every cue supports the event.
What you will do
- Develop lighting concepts, plots, fixture schedules, color choices, and cue approaches.
- Collaborate with clients, producers, scenic teams, video, and venue contacts.
- Prepare clear design documentation for load-in, focus, programming, and strike.
- Lead focus sessions and provide creative direction to programmers and technicians.
- Adapt the design responsibly when venue, schedule, or equipment conditions change.
What we are looking for
- Portfolio demonstrating professional live-event lighting design.
- Strong understanding of fixture selection, optics, color, power, control, and programming.
- Ability to read venue plans and communicate design intent through accurate paperwork.
- Comfort balancing creative goals with safety, budget, schedule, and camera needs.
- Professional presentation and calm decision-making.
Work Arrangement
This is an active, project-based opportunity with Sound Guyz Event Solutions, Inc., based in Hartford, CT. Assignments support events throughout Connecticut and regional markets. Scheduling, travel, and project details vary by assignment and may include evenings, weekends, load-in, show operation, and strike.
