Shure’s new Axient Digital 1.6 firmware introduces Channel Linking and Preferred Access Point—two tools designed to make complex wireless audio systems more resilient and easier to manage.

Reliable wireless audio is essential for corporate events, concerts, festivals, broadcasts and large venue productions. Released in October 2026, the latest Axient Digital update is especially relevant to systems using multiple receiver locations, redundant wireless paths or several ShowLink access points.

What is new in Shure Axient Digital 1.6?

Channel Linking

Channel Linking allows compatible receiver channels to share and synchronize important settings. Supported receivers include the Shure AD4D, AD4Q and ADX5D, along with the ANX4 when it is operating in Axient Digital mode.

Once receiver channels are linked, secondary channels can inherit settings from the primary channel, including frequency, transmitter registration, encryption information and channel naming. This reduces repetitive configuration work while helping production teams maintain consistent settings across distributed or redundant receiver systems.

Preferred Access Point

Axient Digital systems using multiple AD610 ShowLink access points can now assign supported transmitters to a preferred access point. ShowLink gives engineers real-time remote control of compatible Axient Digital transmitters, and this update provides more control over which access point manages each transmitter.

That can make system behavior more predictable in convention centers, stadiums, arenas, multi-room corporate events, campus productions, parade routes and other environments where wireless coverage spans a large physical area.

Why this update matters for live event production

Wireless challenges are no longer limited to finding open frequencies. Modern productions may involve several performance areas, remote receiver racks, extensive network infrastructure and multiple engineers managing the same system.

  • Build more resilient receiver configurations
  • Maintain consistent settings across receiver locations
  • Reduce repetitive receiver programming
  • Improve ShowLink access-point management
  • Prepare spare or alternate receiver channels more efficiently
  • Support productions covering larger physical areas

These capabilities are particularly valuable in New England and New York City, where productions regularly operate inside RF-dense convention centers, hotels, theaters, campuses and outdoor event spaces.

Before updating an Axient Digital system

Shure lists firmware version 1.6.18 for supported Axient Digital receivers, transmitters and the AD610, along with Wireless Workbench 7.9.0. Production systems should not be updated immediately before a client event.

  1. Back up the current Wireless Workbench configuration.
  2. Confirm firmware requirements for every receiver, transmitter and access point.
  3. Update a representative test system first.
  4. Verify audio, encryption, ShowLink and network communication.
  5. Test linked-channel operation and access-point assignments.
  6. Update the remaining equipment during a maintenance window.
  7. Complete a full RF rehearsal before using the new features on a live production.

Operational reminder: A firmware update does not replace frequency coordination, antenna planning, network design, battery management or an established wireless recovery plan.

Better tools still require experienced RF coordination

Channel Linking and Preferred Access Point are valuable improvements, but dependable wireless performance still requires technicians to evaluate local RF activity, available spectrum, intermodulation, transmitter power, antenna placement, network configuration and backup procedures.

For mission-critical events, the strongest results come from combining professional wireless equipment with experienced system design and active RF monitoring.
